
While perusing tons of online resources and listening to probably over a thousand hours of audio podcasts I’ve found that the part of game audio work that happens outside of the DAW or middleware gets rarely gets talked about even though at times it may take up much more of our time than the work involving actual audio.
I wanted to shine a light on the many ingenious tools that can help us get the other 40-60% of our job done more efficiently. Similarly, I also wanted to finally create a resource that lists some of my favorite left-field audio helpers that let you quickly do things like figure out the mathematical relationship between different varispeed settings, set loop points for your latest self-sampled instruments, or convert sample libraries from something as ubiquitous as SoundFonts to something as out-there as an E-MU Emulator floppy disk.
I also wanted to share tools that supercharge your Windows experience, elevate your note taking, help you document workflows and bugs, leverage WAAPI to perform batch operations in Wwise, and let you perform your daily due diligence much more easily.
As with my REAPER Tools Guide, this page is intended to be a permanent resource that I’ll be updating with new helpful tools whenever they’ve made their way into my day-to-day work 🙂 I highly recommend bookmarking this page if you want to stay up to date with new entries, and a handy update log will let you keep tabs on changes over time.
